Greenwatch
How can we monitor the planet without monitoring people?
There is an urgent need to monitor the hstate of the Earth without simultaneously monitoring people against their will or longterm interests. GREENWATCH is a research project uniting artists, researchers & developers, who will investigate what kinds and which degrees of surveillance, we will be prepared to accept in the coming decades to ensure the livelihood of the species centuries and millennia into the future?
In May 2026, I was invited to curate the artistic process as part of GREENWATCH. For this collaboration, I invited artists Emilia Bergmark and Wang & Söderström to develop a series of physical artefacts in an interdisciplinary process together with the researchers. The artifacts will explore climate impact, surveillance, and the future of the Internet of Things. These works are intended to function as conversation pieces, opening up conversations across Europe, the United States, and China about the technological infrastructures we are building — and the futures they enable.
The GREENWATCH project is led by professor Klaus Bruhn Jensen at Center for Tracking and Society at University of Copenhagen. You can learn more about the project on KU’s website.
