Generator: Making Space for New Futures
Generator is a new, experimental stage and meeting space at Kulturmødet Mors developed with Nicklas Larsen Copenhagen Institute for Future Studies, together with Kulturmødet, Julie Melgaard Smidt and Evrim Citirikkaya. Here, we bring art and culture into action as methods for exploring society, creating new connections and inspiring action. Generator aims to create movement in the way we understand the present and the future.
The programme was therefore less panel, more stage; less conclusion, more exploration; less certainty, more courage. Through artistic approaches, performative formats, readings, sound, conversations and collective investigations, Generator aimed to create a space where audiences can feel, question, imagine and contribute themselves. At Generator we applied curiosity as a starting point and explored hope, uncertainty, fear and the power of imagination.
The result was Generator; a 3-day stage at the 2026 Cultural Summit on Mors that seeked to challenge traditional ways of engaging in a conference setting.
Creating space for dialogue
Generator staged every format as an exploration, not a conclusion. From the very beginning, the ambition was to create something other than a programme consisting of panel debates and standalone conversations. Generator aimed to be a space where art and culture could be used as methods for exploring society, creating new connections and setting things in motion. That is why we worked with formats that were less concerned with delivering conclusions and more focused on exploring, asking questions and creating space for participation. This meant, among other things, that the audience was not simply there to watch what was happening on stage, they were to be part of the exploration.
The conversation did not necessarily have to take place between three people on a stage while everyone else in the room listened. It could emerge between the stage and the audience, between different artistic formats, and between people who would not normally have met. We involved the audience in the different formats; both through longer workshops, where they participated actively, and through various Q&A formats. In doing so, we created a space where the spectator feels, doubts, imagines and contributes themselves, allowing audiences to points towards new ways of imagining and developing our societies.
Generator was a staged space with its own distinct visual and artistic identity. The artistic elements were not applied as an illustration or a pause between programme elements, but an active part of the way Generator thinks, senses and explores.
Generator premiered at Kulturmødet Mors 2026. You can read more about the programme via kulturmødet.dk.
